Statement of purpose :

One year certificate course in Laboratory Technology (PGCC-LT) has been designed keeping the following objectives in mind

  • To provide hands-on experience to the technologist with diagnostic modalities that are currently available in the market
  • To improve employability amongst the qualified technologists based on the training received

Competence expected at the end of course :

  • To be able to collect blood samples from the patient in the right container following correct practices
  • To be able to inspect the sample for acceptance criteria
  • To be able to process the sample in a manner defined for the required test
  • To be able to operate the analysers and carry out the test
  • Working knowledge of QC analysis, acceptance of QC and handling of outliers
  • Effective handling and disposal of samples after their defined retention period
  • Laboratory safety
  • Working knowledge of inventory management

Minimum Eligibility criteria :

  • Bachelors in Medical Lab Technology
  • Bachelors in Science (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Allied subjects)

Duration of course : One year (full-time course)

Mode of selection :

  • Interview of shortlisted applicants
  • Written examination and interview of shortlisted candidates (in case of excess of applicants)

Fee to be charged on selection :

  • Rs.60000/- payable in maximum of two instalments

Stipend to be paid to the selected candidates :

  • Rs.6000/- per month. No provision for accommodation and other expenses

Broad course outline :

Phlebotomy (1 month) Accession (1 month) Biochemistry and LCMS (2 months) Hematology (2 months) Histopathology / Cytopathology (2 months) Microbiology / Serology (2 months) Cytogenetics (1 month) Molecular Diagnosis (1 month)

Theory sessions :

  • One / Two sessions every week (1.5 hrs each) to cover general topics related to Quality, Safety etc, as well as specific topics of technical relevance. Periodic evaluations will be included (internal assessment)

Award of certificate :

  • Eligibility will entail putting in at least 80% attendance. There will be a final exam (combination of theory, practical and viva)
